2. Paranormal News | Story behind Shoreham's UFO
A WOMAN has come forward to solve the mystery lights in the sky raised by letter writer Simon Pardoe in last week's Shoreham Herald
Katie Edwards, of Crown Road, Shoreham, said she had organised a surprise silver wedding party for her parents and instead of fireworks her uncle brought nine Thai glow lanterns which look like mini hot air balloons.
Their family and friends wrote messages on them, lit them and left them to float away in the sky.
She said: "They were amazing and they ordered themselves neatly into a formation making them seem more than just lanterns.
"Maybe this is what Mr Pardoe saw that night or something similar."
Mr Pardoe from Southwick wrote to the Herald saying he saw five bright green and red lights in the pattern of an inverted tick for about five minutes in the direction of Shoreham Airport - the same night as the party.
He doubted that they were man made lanterns because they seemed more substantial and asked readers to come forward with any answers.
Simon's original letter:
Please shed light on strange lights in the sky
« Previous « PreviousNext » Next » View GalleryLAST Saturday evening, at around 6.40pm, my family and I noticed some unusual lights, looking to the west from our home in Southwick. We counted five bright green/red lights which seemed to be in the pattern of an inverted tick and almost perfectly spaced out.
They were visible for about five minutes before disappearing.
Although this was in the direction of Shoreham Airport and fireworks were going off towards a more north-westerly direction, the lights did not look like typical aviation or a firework display.
A number of recent newspaper reports of unusual lights in the sky have turned out to be man-made lanterns, but what we saw seemed much more substantial and distant.
The lights seemed to be too uniformly bright and symmetrical to have been a star constellation.
Interestingly, another member of the family driving towards Shoreham on the Brighton bypass saw the same lights at the same time and this was the first thing he said to us when we saw him later that evening – a number of drivers were slowing down to look.
While there has to be a logical explanation for this, we are struggling to think what it might be. Hopefully, other readers may know what it was we saw.
