The Joiners Arms is not the only pub to experience visitors of the ghostly variety.
The Strugglers in Lincoln's Westgate, which stands at the site of the old city gallows, is also thought to be haunted, by the ghost of a dog.
When the gallows were moved to inside the castle walls in 1816, the new site was still only a stone's throw from the Strugglers.
William Clarke, the last man to hang at the castle before executions were transferred to the new prison in Greetwell Road, was a regular - frequently accompanied by his lurcher.
After Clarke was hanged for murder, the landlord Bob Roberts took in the dog, but it pined to death. Since then, there have been reports of ghostly scratchings at the door as the loyal lurcher searches for his lost master.
Successive landlords at the Black Bull in Welton have experienced unnatural happenings and are convinced that the spirit of an airman - lost on operations just before he was due to marry a barmaid - haunts the pub.
Guests at the White Hart Hotel in Bailgate, Lincoln, have also heard the sound of children playing though the room the noise is traced to turns out to be empty. It is said that if you listen hard enough you will hear the sound of Roman soldiers marching past or the clatter of a stagecoach.
