Ghostly goings-on behind the bar have convinced a pub landlord to get into the spirit of his new haunt.
Since Mark Owens (44) and his partner Becky Rayner (45) took over the management of the Joiners Arms in Welbourn, south of Lincoln, six weeks ago, they have had to get used to the antics of an uninvited guest.
Their invisible visitor turns on lights, switches on CD players and moves pieces of paper - but is friendly at heart, Mr Owens believes.
The couple realised that they had a ghost in their midst following an incident involving their chef, Andy Flitney.
Having locked up to take his dog for a walk, he returned to the pub to find all the lights on and a CD blaring out.
Mr Owens, who lives above the pub, said: "Andy was really spooked by the incident. That was when we knew we had a ghost. It sent a shiver down my spine. I don't tend to believe in things like this, but there is no other rational explanation."
But he added: "We aren't worried about it - it seems quite a mischievous ghost but it isn't nasty.
"The locals love it and are now coming up with ideas of who the ghost could be."
Of the many theories which have emerged over a pint, some believe that the ghost could be the spirit of a 102-year-old man who died in the building or a number of regulars who over the years have spent more time in the pub than their own homes.
The ghost may have been stirred in the 18th century pub by a series of renovations, including a complete redecoration and a change of furniture, which a began shortly after the couple took over.
A series of odd goings-on have been blamed on the ghost, including the disappearance of a laminated review of the pub which was pinned to the bar.
Despite a search, it could not be found - only for Mr Owens to discover it pinned to its original spot in the bar the following morning. Another time, Mr Owens' glasses vanished - only to re-appear in a skip outside the pub.
Now the couple hope that local history experts will be able to help them discover the origins of their new guest.
Mr Owens said: "We are hoping that people will come in and talk to us about this and that we might be able to find out who our ghost is - or was."
Chef Mr Flitney said that one of the strangest events happened earlier this week when a picture moved on the pub's wall near the dartboard.
"I definitely can't understand what's going on," said Mr Flitney, from Grantham.
"There is no rational explanation to certain occurrences.
"It was so strange to take the dog for a walk that day and return to find the CD player on as well as all of the lights.
"I suppose that it could have been something to do with an electricity surge but it seems unlikely to me.
"Only this morning, I heard that on Monday night a picture near the dart board was physically moved.
"In the past, I have never believed in such occurrences."
Many of the pub's regulars believed that the details of the "hauntings" were being made up - until they were confronted by the hard evidence.
Malcolm Crosby (68), from Welbourn, has been a regular at the pub for 50 years now.
He said that in all the time he has enjoyed his weekly pint at the pub, he had never imagined that it might be haunted.
"It came as quite a surprise when Andy told me about some of the goings-on to be honest with you," said Mr Crosby, who is now retired.
"In all the years that I've enjoyed a drink there, I have to say that I have never had any sense of any ghostly presence there.
"But it is an old pub and so, in my opinion, it is quite possible that ghosts are in residence too.
"Certainly, there is no explanation why that picture near the dartboard should have moved.
"My only hope is that the owners don't do anything silly like close the pub. The pub is so convenient for everyone in the village and, haunted or not, it is a real asset."
