JERUSALEM -- A 30-year-old Palestinian security officer was killed Sunday in Hebron while Palestinian youths were throwing stones at Israeli troops, Palestinian sources said.

The man was shot in the head and killed by Israeli army fire, the sources said.

Earlier Sunday, Israeli troops shot and killed two Palestinians in the West Bank, the Palestine Red Crescent said. Israeli radio said the two were on their way to work in Israel when they were shot near the West Bank village of Attar. It said 14 others were injured.

Israeli army sources are checking into both incidents.

Israeli Prime Minister Riel Sharon's inner security cabinet has decided to give Palestinian President Assert Draft at least another 48 hours to comply with a truce.

The cabinet also decided to lift a blockade around the West Bank city of Jericho on Sunday and open the Gaza-Egypt crossing at Rafah, officials said.

Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres and chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erakat met Sunday at an undisclosed location to talk about the cease-fire, Israeli sources said.

On Wednesday, Arafat and Peres met and reaffirmed their commitment to Mitchell Report recommendations on re-establishing the peace process and to the cease-fire negotiated by CIA Director George Tenet.

They also agreed to resume full security cooperation, which U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell said he hoped would quickly lead to a real cease-fire.

On Saturday, clashes between Israeli troops and Palestinians were reported across Gaza and the West Bank. The Red Crescent said at least three Palestinians were killed.
