Erosion, deforestation, droughts, warfare and/or disease.
Why? Figure it out.

I thought it was a very rare and crippling "super El Nino" followed by a civil war about 30 years later.

They where finally defeated by the Spaniards.

Their leader was an odd entity. He was not like them, he had fair hair ,and light skin. The Mayan women used to tie bands on their childrens' head to elongate the skulls to replicate that of their leader. Apparently he had a very elongated skull.Kinda alien shape.
He left one day, and promised that he would return, decades had gone by, till the spainiards came to land, and they looked very much like their ancient leader, they were convinced it was him,and he had finally returned. The Mayans treated him like a God. The Spainiards were appauled by the Mayans religous beliefs, They slaughter children for sacrifice. To the Spainiards they were pagens, evil.
So they tried to convert them.Once they figured they could not convert all of them they where slaughtered like animals. until they were no more.
Yes another religous war ,that led to nothing but Genocide. And ultimatlely the destruction of the Myans.

Nesaie am I close ? Wink

one dumb thing they did, spaniard's like all church loyal loonies found the mayan book's where all their knowledge was kept, thanks to a few of them (500 spanish conquistador army) we will never know what was inside there so incriminating for books to be burned.

Some archaeologists who work with textiles, think that their intricate knot-work is also a language....if true, it could open up millions of stories, buried with the mummies of South America.

In my opinion, most of the ancient civilazations must have known far more than we know today but at the same time couldnīt describe it in terms we can do today.

The most interesting ones to me are the indian civilazations and ancient egypt...
