It was a beautiful day here too. Sunny with a little breeze and temp of 97F. The frogs and other amphibians are enjoying themselves and the deer are fat. My backyard is a jungle teaming with life. So far this summer we've gotten enough rain to keep the creek running and the plants watered. It'll be a big ring in the tree growth. |

Well this past week was more like a usual Summer only it's not staying long. Had two days above 90 and then back to mid 80's which is cool around here for this time of year.
Yesterday was the hottest day of the Year heat index of 109-110 The corner liquor store did a brisk business yesterday. Both my neighbor and I fell victim to many cold soldiers. The afternoon produced the usual pop up T-Storms that that kind of heat can generate. They all missed the cave but later in the evening around 8:30-9:00 we had a monster build up north west of us and blast through the area. I tied everything down after checking the radar, glad I did.
Lost the top of a Maple tree and several limbs from others. The lightning was spectacular, thunder woke the kids from bed. Heavy rain and a touch of hail all gone now and temps in the low 80's. Unreal.

| It's been hot in TX as well. Still NOT as HOT as the heat wave in 1980???? So that's a shocker. I guess global warming is making it hot but not record breaking hot, all as part of its plan for global dominance. |

Now now Jackson something we can agree on, who'd a thunk it.
Being a weather buff I can say beyond doubt that Sir Jaack is 110% correct with the summer of 1980, I remember it like it was yesterday. Why? I worked out in it and recall with 100% accuracy how the story goes.
I was picking berries with my Grand Father in early June wearing a light jacket as it was a bit chilly that evening. The next day a warm front swept in and it got to the low 90's  little did we know at the time that that day would be the coolest it would be until Late August with a string of 10-12 days at 100 or hotter with humidity and blast furnace winds.
The only saving grace was how quickly the human body can adapt to such heat when exposed to it. We had a few days of 104 without a heat index, FREAKING HOT AS HELL.
On the afternoon of Aug 20 or 21 a T-Strom blew in from the Northwest. We all stood stone still out in it soaking up the rain like we were taking showers, it felt wonderful, refreshing. The heat was broken and led to a very snowy cold winter. Just one reason of many, as to why I love the weather so much.
60-70 plus days of hell, the only summer hotter around here was the summer of 1936 with 87 and 88 coming in a close third and fourth.

A/c been off for over a week now absolutely unheard of around here for at least 20 years running. 57 degrees a few mornings and only 80 for a high with hardly any humidity. The Maples will start dropping leaves way too early if this keeps up. Early fall cold ass winter is my gut feeling. Last time I saw this was in the late 70's.
