its only for a week, seven days. I'm doing the research and am aware that misuse of such substance, doxycycline hyclate in point, can lead to adaptive bacerial radicals resulting in superbugs.
To avoid this, and as is uninformed to most involved with antioboitics, there are probiotics.
My inquire is, well, with a urinary track/blatter infection, possibly chlamitya, I am going to kill it off with this antibiotic. I was thinking of combating the potential negative effects with a balance of live culture foods an hour before and one hour after capsule induction. Also was thinking about getting supplements that increase flora for upper and lower intestinse.
What do you think? Could you shead any more knowledge on the subject? Appropriate advice or better guidance? Thank you
its nice to finally be here |

Sometimes people are prescibed anti viral or antibiotics for life, depending on what you have. I had Lyme Disease since 1989 and was on long term antibiotics and only stopped them because that doctor retired, and my new on wanted me off that medicine. He didn;t believe I have Lyme, but was regularly tested positive for it.
Among the antibiotics I took Doxicycline or Biaxin from 1989 until just a few years ago, twice a day, but even more when my symptoms flared up.
I don;t think you have anything to worry about taking them for a week or 2 for something simple. Some peopel think they are very harmful, but they didn;t kill me off. |

I try and avoid antibiotics when I can, but have a compromised immune system and can't mess around, so I do have to take them from time to time. Take them all as prescribed and if you get side effects from the loss of good bacteria, I've found it helpful to eat yogurt through the course and at least a few days after. It doesn't replenish the bad bacteria, but it does help restore the good. It seems to keep things on an even keel for me.
It certainly won't hurt! (Oh, and you don't have to go looking for overpriced yogurt that spouts about their bacterias. As far as I know acidophilus and bifidus are in most if not all yogurts...They are the natural good bacteria and not genetically engineered and patented...
Hope that helps... |

well its a waste of time and effort to use probiotics whilst taking antibiotics..
The antibiotics will do what they do and knock probotics straight out of your system... |

As much as I've been prescribed medication I've never heard of probiotics before. What exactly are they? |

a pro-biotic restores the healthy flora of the gut, stabilising the good bacteria. pro-biotics can be found in fermented milk products, a drink called yakult contains the casiei shirota strain which, is a probiotic. it is also found in yoghurt.
alcohol, fatty foods, antibiotics and the contraceptive pill affects the balance of good bacteria in our gut.
some probiotic capsules are available which are guaranteed to reach the gut and lower intestine.
probiotics do not fight against anti-biotics or lessen their effect, they simply allow the body to keep its natural good bacteria balance in the gut, as the above substances throw out this balance.
they prevent urinary tract infections, bladder infections and assist with irritable bowel syndrome.
i hope you found this of some use.
Blessed Be,
Karlie |

| What is yakult? Is it like kefir? Is there a way of home brewing it? |

Humm...I checked it out. It seems more processed than my personal taste. They use powedered skim milk for one thing. That was the big turn off for me.
Have you ever checked out kefir? It originally was made with "grains", not really grain like wheat or rye, but thats what they're called. There is kind of a romantic story about the history of kefir when the Russians got the grains. You may be interested.
You may also be interested in the Weston A Price foundation that has recipes and articles about old fashioned fermentation. I've done cultured cream, organic apple cider, real ginger ale, saurkraut, etc. It's fun. Oh, here is a link to their website:

You may also be interested in "Wild Fermentation".

Oh, and raw yoghurt from raw milk too...yummy.
My grandma always had buttermilk and yoghurt in the fridge for me...her youngest granddaughter. She spoiled me rotton. |
