PostPosted: Mon Dec 01, 2008 11:15 am    Post subject: Fast Food Causes Alzheimer's Disease, Makes Population DUMB Reply with quote

What happens when you feed a mouse a nine-month diet of high-fat, high-sugar junk foods? They develop signs of Alzheimer's disease.

That's what Swedish researchers discovered in recent findings published by the Karolinska Institutet's Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. They were attempting to test the effects of fast food and junk food on individuals with the apoE4 gene variant, which is present in 15 to 20 percent of humans.

Mice with the same gene variant took only nine months on a fast food diet to develop the abnormal brain tangles and chemical changes indicative of Alzheimer's disease.

In other words, to take this out of the realm of scientific language: Fast food makes you stupid! Or at least it makes mice stupid, and human experiments have been underway in America since the dawn of the fast food industry!

That fast food makes people stupid is not exactly news, of course: We've known that fast food makes people stupid for a long, long time. And it is the increasing consumption of fast food since the 1950's that has helped make the American population even more stupid than past generations would have ever thought possible. (TV is no doubt also a factor, and when you combine junk food and television, IQs fall even faster...)

For example, a linguistic analysis of the recent debate between Gov. Sarah Palin and Sen. Joseph Biden revealed that Palin spoke at about a ninth-grade level, while Biden spoke at an eight-grade level.

One hundred and fifty years ago, in 1858, Abraham Lincoln spoke at an eleventh-grade level during his debates against Stephen Douglas.

There was no McDonald's fast food in 1858. People ate largely unprocessed, unrefined foods and didn't have their brains contaminated with aspartame, MSG, vaccine preservatives, psych meds and other toxic chemicals.

In 2008, the American population has become so stupid that the majority of voters can no longer linguistically parse the meanings of complex sentences or even understand the implications of cause and effect. Thus, presidential races come down to popularity contests, short slogans and emotionally-driven rallies that offer nothing substantive to an intelligent voter.

The intelligent candidate for this most recent election, Ron Paul, was too "complicated" for mainstream America because he tried to explain the inner workings of the banking system and the money supply. Too bad he didn't know the way to win the hearts of the American voter is to speak to their junk-food-poisoned minds at a fifth-grade level.

It is no exaggeration to say that, through the destructive influence of fast food, America has become a nation of the mentally retarded. Note that this is not a derogatory term, but rather a technical description of the brain function effects of widespread fast food consumption. I am not saying Americans are "a bunch of retards," but rather describing the very real suppression of cognitive function in a nation that consumes more fast food than any other in the world.

The Romans inadvertently poisoned their people with lead. The American empire, in contrast, is poisoning its own people with processed foods, pharmaceuticals, vaccines and poisonous chemicals in personal care products. The Romans, at least, ate a Mediterranean diet, whereas the mainstream American diet is a diet that produces degenerative disease and retarded brain function.

Don't be rediculas. In 1858 the life expectacy age was probably 30 years younger than it is now. Half the population probaby never had 6th grade educations, and many people couldn''t read or write. We didn;t have refrigeration. We didn't have modern medicine, vacines or cures for many things. They cetainly processed many things with probably unknown harmful affects. The metals they used in canning couldn;t have been any refined alloys like today, the processeses wern't invented yet. They probably contained lead and other materials that were corrisive. The bacteria on many foods was probably sky high without refrigerators. meat was salted, and much of it was probably hunted or butchered right on the farm, not inspected my modern means. They canned fruits using a lot of sugars, they cooked with lard, ate and used the fat in gravys. The local barber was probably the dentists, and about all they could do was pull your teeth. If the 1858 diet was so healthy, why did they all die younger?

Homes didn;t have hot and cold running water, they had outhouses. Boil that down into cleanlyness issues, that without hot running water sanitation was probably not real great, and contamination from outhouses vs. modern indoor flushing toilets, would have been a major unknown way to spread diseases. Many sewers were the streets. People didn;t bath or shower daily, they many times shared bathwater I;m sure.

Once you realize liberal logic is all in RETROSPECT...you will realize how fruitless of a discussion this is.

Greeney, you're not very familiar with the lifespan statistics are you? Taking the actual average lifespan back then, you're right. Their lifespan was, on average, shorter. However, the biggest reason for that was infant deaths. If you take the same statistics and take that demographic out of it, you'd see that the lifespans are about equal. There were many people who lived to be 60, 70, 90, even over 100. As a matter of fact, we have now decreased our American lifespan over the last few years.

You seem to believe that we have a longer lifespan due to modern technology. I disagree. In the 1800's people lived that old without "modern medicine". Today, it is assumed that by a certain age, you'll have to be on some sort of medication. How many meds do you take?

The fact is, the corporations that create these drugs are corrupt. Often, though the research for a drug does, say, lower cholesterol, it doesn't expand a person's lifespan because of the side effect diseases it causes.

Take Bayer, who helped build Auschwitz, solde heroin, etc. here is a more recent article about them settling a kickback probe.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20081125/bayer-doj-settlement/

There are many other things that people in the 1800's didn't have, car polution, sound polution, etc. I'm sure that nutrition isn't the only factor in their quality of life, but I'd say it truly is a strong factor.

BTW, my father was raised in a log cabin with an outhouse. He has a sixth grade education. But, back then they used to actually educate sixth graders. The PC 1960's/1970's were a bad era in education "reform". It is also true that growing up they'd share the same bath water. My grandmother would pump it from the outdoor pump, heat it on the wood burning stove, and fill a basin in the living room. First my grandfather washed with homemade soap, then my grandmother, then from oldest to youngest. They also only did this once a week on Saturday, so they'd be clean for Sunday church. My grandmother lived into her 90's.

I do believe that a-lot of modern technology has helped advance humanity in a sanitation sense, but we're certainly not living better. Quantitatively, we are only living a bit longer. But how are we doing qualitatively? Not so well. Couple everything with what Nesaie mentioned about the falsity of many of our legal drugs with the fact that fast-food culture only supersizes Americans, we have lethal lifestyle. It's important for us to look at this from a public health point-of-view, where we're not so concerned with how overweight an individual is, but how overweight the population is. Sure, some people blame it on genetics, but that's only partially the cause. The environment is what DRIVES it. Advertisements for prepackaged and fast foods saturate the airwaves, newspapers and magazines. Colorfully packaged single-person servings make processed foods appealing. There's a reason why marketers continue to use them, no?

Here are only a few suggestions to tackle this issue:

Quote:
* Make activity more accessible, by, for example, building communities to allow more walking or biking.

* Regulate TV food ads aimed at children and mandate equal time for pro-nutrition messages.

* Ban fast foods and soft drinks from schools, instead forging school contracts with sports-related companies.

* Restructure school lunch programs to include more healthy foods.

* Subsidize healthy foods and drive down prices of fruits and vegetables by 70 percent.

* Discourage consumption of poor foods through a "fat tax," earmarking the funds for nutrition and recreation.

Aquarian, with regards to sanitation, sometimes too much of a good thing is actually bad. Today, parents are so freaked out about germs that they're cleaning with all this anti-bacterial stuff. It is actually worse for kids than having a little natural dirt around. They don't get a chance to build their own immunity and so end up getting sick more often.

My mom's mom used to say that everyone had to eat a peck of dirt before they die.

Some of the best natural cleaners around are good old fashioned cleaners around are vinegar and baking soda. In fact American vinegar isn't fit to drink. They can put petroleum in it without a label...legally.Sad

.

Nonsence! You lost many babies during birth, as well as early years, and lost many Mothers giving childbirth died. You had deseases like taburclosis, and deseases that are non exsistant now due to modern medicine, collera other deadly pleages. Too sugesst modern medicine was not a factor, even comparing to 25 years ago is absurd, let alone back to 1858. Even in the past 20 years, look at what fiber optics and lazars have done to advance surgical proceedures.

My Grandmother also came from farm country in Ohio, and they were born in 1900. The had outhouses too, and it was not uncommon for kids in those places to only have elementry school educations. They were need on the farms. She lived to be 86. My Mothers parents, her Dad died from TB, and her Mother died young, but don;t recall from what. That was in the 1920-30's, not back to the civil war.

There is a definate coorelation between sewage systems and diseases, and the contamination of drinking water supplies. Poor sewage and garbage control in cities, causes disease and also are breeding grounds for rodents that spread those deseases.

If you were able to do much surgury in 1860, it was very crude and invasive, and probably have a very big fatality factor. What was considered surgically clean in 1860 compared to today, I'd hate to imagine where we would be today, it if were not for the pill makers, and return to the days of 1860 medications.

To even suggest, that the 1850's was

Saturos, you are a good argument to favor abortion. Bet your parents if you have any, wish they had considered the option. I guess I would be bitter like yourself, had I been born in a whorehouse as you were.
