|

| |
Got off the phone with Micro$oft yesterday.
They told me that if I have to authorize XP more than 7 times, then I have to purchase another Key...
Here is my problem.
I always work on my computers, at least 3 total in house.
Yesterday I was swapping out an older Video card from one computer to the other. XP authorization popped up and said it needed to re-authorize XP after installing a different video card.
So I was a little pissed, and called MS to ask why this is...
Well, to make a long story short, when XP notices a few hardware changes it will initiate the re-authorization process..
Ok, this I can deal with. No problem. I own 3 copies of XP, 2 home and 1 pro.
But, I have a problem having to pay for another Key if I need to authorize XP for the 8th time.
I usually re-install XP in my machines about once every 4 months. On top of that, I usually change hardware constantly in my machines. I'm a builder and usually change my main box at least once a year. (except for this year, cause I have no job at the moment )
Charging registered Owners to buy a new key because they may re-install XP often is wrong... IMO..
Have anyone had any problems with this?? |

I used to use copies of XP corp. thanks to usenet, and that was nice. But I was able to go legit at a really good price and so I did. But now, I wish I hadn't if they are gonna play like this.
I am looking into Linux.
Need to get a couple books and learn it this year.
Definately something that I want to do.
The only reason I would need XP, would be for Audio Production and occasional gaming (but even games are slowly being ported to Linux more and more )
Either that or I get a Mac.
I dont have a problem with Apple, I used to be a Mac fanboy back in the early 90's, but it got too expensive for me when Steve Jobs pulled the 3rd party cloning licenses. |

MIB,

Actually, I do have ways of getting around the issue, I just was really suprised that M$ wanted money for another key..
Thanks again.
