SEATTLE, Washington (AP) -- Microsoft Corp. said Wednesday it has completed work on its long-delayed Windows Vista operating system and plans to release it to consumers January 30.
The announcement means Microsoft is on track to meet its revised release schedule.
Jim Allchin, co-president of the Microsoft division that includes Windows, said in a conference call that Windows Vista's code was released to begin manufacturing copies early Wednesday.
"This is a good day," Allchin said.

My friend has been "beta testing" Vista from Microsoft for quite a while.
The new OS wiil take all the things you might like in XPand improve
them across the board. Case in point....My friend has a Samsung 26in.
HDTV/monitor . He has two computers and a KVM switch hooked up to
it. With Windows XP...The graphics and all images are great with one
exception......the text is not as clear. Whereas the same text is crystal
clear with Vista. It sees all the latest multi-media tech and runs
flawlessly according to my friend. Can hardly wait to get it!..... |

"no need for Vista"
MiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiB
Most "techies" I know say they always wait until the first service pack
release before buying ANY new Microsoft OS..............
For me it's all about staying ahead of the "learning curve" for those
who can appreciate.................... |

If I.E. 7 is any sign of what "Vista" will be like, I'll wait until "Service Pack 2 comes out. |

What are you running for a system???? A Pentium II based "rig"....
*- Vista has the same features you described as missing, you just have
to know where to find them.........

I really don't see this as a negative. What I am tired of is their WPA
data base re-activation with Windows XP. For someone who reformats
at least 2 or 3 times a year, the re-activation process is time consuming
and a real pain!! Especially when you have already paid for the retail
OS disk...................... |

| ok....so you dont see a problem with having only 30 days to register or it becomes a useless peice of junk and you also have to register it everytime you replace a hardware component. So you dont like to customize your computer then right. |

Vista is a poor knock-off of OS X. I agree with MIB, I will keep running XP for a while. If I'm not using my lovely Mac |

"30 days to register"
dddddddddddddddddddddd
Are you sure it's not activate as opposed to register. Microsoft already
has a WPA data base that includes a hardware inventory of your
present system so that whenever hardware changes are made, a
re-activation must occur. This is how it is presently with XP......
"don't like to customize"
ddddddddddddddddddddddddd
I hate to say this but can you read ??? You obviously have
no clue............................ |

Speaking of "gear".....How about my new Samsung 19" Syncmaster
971P LCD monitor. 1500:1 contrast ratio with 6ms response time.
It has a software program that senses when the panel is turned
90 degrees and changes the OS orientation to portrait. It displays a
webpage the way it was meant to be displayed.....About half the
scrolling as per normal. Plays all games great....No ghosting or
tearing that I could see. Anyways, it has a touch sensitive on/off
switch but no manual controls. Everything is controlled by software.
I don't think I like this simply because in order to make changes
one must exit the game to do so. The monitor itself is very bright
with a classy glossy black bezel along with a look that lends itself
to "cyber art" if nothing more. Although it isn't the monitor I thought
I would buy(looking at 23,26, & 30 inch) with a price tag of $380.00
Less $30 instant Comp USA rebate along with a Samsung $50 mail-in
rebate..... a real bargain at $300.00!!!!! Oh and I also just got an
Olympus Stylus 1000-10 mega pixel camera after running my
Stylus 500 through the washing machine...but that's another story.
Nice we could have this chat Stieven................. |
