When Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki arrived for an official dinner at the Sharm el Sheikh conference on rebuilding Iraq last week, he faced dilemmas posed by two women.
One was Secretary of State Condeleezza Rice, who let it be known that she would leap at the opportunity to have a one-on-one discussion with Mottaki — the highest-level talks in nearly 30 years. The other woman was Larissa Abramova, a Ukrainian violinist performing at the dinner of the dignitaries. Mottaki objected to her sexy sleeveless red gown and left the dinner without ever sitting down.

I tend to consider anyone who wants a nuke, and refers to America as "the Great Satan" a threat. |

Well, while I may not agree with the idea of nuking them, I tend to have a problem with people that are so level headed and tolerant of other cultures, that they storm out of a conference on the rebuilding of a country, all because of a sleeveless red dress, before EVER even sitting down to discuss the situation, ever having possession of nuclear weapons.

God forbid another red sleeveless ever be worn again...or taken off. Ha.
Unfortunate though to generalize about the whole population. That government is unpopular in Iran and the people are fairly pro Western.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. |

Do you really think that this thread involves something that is insulting to Iranians?
I am Iranian myself and I will tell you that the people are not the problem.
The Islamic Extremist are the problem, once they took power in the late 70's Iran went down hill from there, making enemies with so many countries, making girls covour up themselve to where if their hair shows just a tiny bit like a half and inch or so, they will be punished. And legal acts violating international human rights norms include harsh penalties for crimes - amputation of offenders hands and feet; punishment of "victimless" crimes such as fornication, homosexuality, apostacy, poor hijab (covering of the head for women); execution of offenders under 18 years of age; restrictions on freedom of speech, and the press, including the imprisonment of journalists; unequal treatment according to religion and gender in the Islamic Republic's constitution.
The government is to blame for all of this. When Reza Shah was in power before the Islamic Extremist government that they have now, Iran was friends with pretty much everybody, actually as far as I know, they had no enemies at the time. The women also didnt have to where a Hijab that covours thier hair or restricts them from wearing tight pants (off topic but ohwell)
So please next time that you try to insult a different culture or a group of people, make sure that you are educated about the topic instead of saying that the people of Iran are in the Stone Age. Iran has everything that we have in the U.S. They actually get all the technologies that come from Japan and the rest of Asia before we get it. |
