lashmar there are several roots to anti-jewish sentiment. Do not confuse Israel with Judaism though, there is a difference but it can get blurred by the fact that Israel is Jewish theocracy.
1) They are most often accused of killing Jesus. It does not matter to the haters that it was the Romans who actually held the criminal trial and execution, the Jews are the ones to take the blame due to the pharaisis and their secret police involvement as well as the crowd decididng to execute Jesus instead of Barrabas. (Note people who do this seem to forget, ignore, or disbelieve the whole point of the ressurection three days later and that it led to forgiveness.)
2) For most of early Christian history the practice of money lending to get interest back was against the law for Christians. The Jews practiced banking however and became rich doing it. It was infact these banking loans that eventually freed King Richard from Austria. The banking practices led to a situation where some Jews found themselves well established in the financial industry to even this day.
3) Then came a little fight with Thomas Edison over movie projection and filming. A large contigent of early theatre owners and producers of early movies had to flee the east coast to get away from legal suits. And they settled in California where the laws were more lenient taking the new film industry with them. They prospered and have become well established there as well.
4) Then came the more recent history. A forgery book called the Protocols of Zion came out and though it was proven a forgery many people still fell for it including some Jews. The book became a battering ram against judaism but at the same time helped forge the idea of resettling in old Israel.
5) When the Ottoman Turkish Empire was dissambled it was largely broken into new nation except Palestine (known on the map & History as the Palestinian Mandate), which remained under british control despite the local populations cries to establish a democratic nation. Jewish group and individuals started buying up tracks of land in Palestine, and large numbers of Jews started moving to the area (it was a trickle at first a few hundred a year). The protests for democracy eventually ended up in clashes over the British immigration policy. By 1936 the trickle flow of Jews into Palestine had started numbering in the tens of thousands. And a terrorist named Ben Gurion (later Israel's 1st presdent) and his organization started to actively clash with the local opposistion as well as the British. 1936 was the turning point, Hitler had become Fuhrer in Germany and more Jews fled to Palestine. The Holocaust started in 1941 and over 12 million people died in the camps half of whom were Jews. (Germany has a long history of racism against Jews and puts the in the same category as Gyspies/Rom the usual dirty filthy crude disease riden baby stealing cannibal claims)
6) Then comes the formation of the UN. The UN decides to break up the Palestinian Mandate give Israel to the Jews and let the Locals have a equal portion called Palestine. The Jewish leaders accept the local Palestinian leaders do not (after all its their land why give it up.). Israel becomes a reality and moves but in the process commits a number of attrocities and grabs huge swaths of land that were slated to become Palestine. (This enrages locals to this day.) The UN assigned Tel Aviv to be the ISraeli capitol and Jeruslaem to be an International City open to all never to be Israels capitol. The start of the various miltant often terrorist Palestine liberation groups begins often backed by the nations Israel defeated
7) In 1967 a war break out and Israel captures the West Bank from Jordan and the Gaza Strip from Egypt. These are known as the "occupied terriritories" and are largely now recognized as Palestine today having been part of the original UN plan. Despite numerous UN Security Council orders Israel continues its illegal occupation and settlement of the occupied territories, has illegally moved its capitol it Jerusalem (which in the 1990s was officially and illegally recognized by the USA as Isreal's capitol nad is still so recognized today).
8 )In Israel vs Palestine war which has been going on for over half a century things have become a blood feud. The Civilian & Military Death count is 3 Plaestinians die for for every single Israeli. There is terrorism on both sides of the mess but most of the worlds media focuses on Israels losses and the attacks against it (this is a fact, and newspaper and tv counting of articles has proven the bias). Numerous attrocities & offenses have been committed by both sides.
That's where much of the bulk comes from anti-jewish sentiment comes from. And when the old racsim gets mixed up and into the Israeli vs Palestine conflict things get messy trying to settle the blood feud. In the USA most of the sentiment deals with points 1-4 and conspiracy theories which the engender some based a bit in fact and others are outlandish hyperbole but widely believed. |

Thanks Aquatank.
That’s been explained to me a few times (mainly by my R.E teacher who was German, made me laugh at the time) but it has never made so much sense.
Didn’t know that Israel is Jewish theocracy though. |

Well Israel is and isn't a theocracy. Its not a theocracy in that it's run by preists. Its a theocracy in that Jews have more rights than anyone else and is largely classified as Apartheid (there is a dispute over that word)
Example: the Citizenship and Entry into Israel Law. Here in the USA we have a law that say any person born in the USA is citizen of the USA. Thats not how it works in Israel. If one is child of Arab parent and an Israeli parent the child can live in Israel until 12yo then has to leave for another country.
There are of course since the beginning of the new Nation of Israel larger numbers of Jews than non-Jews, much like there are larger numbers of whites here than Native americans for similar reasons (the simlmilarities are striking including the grounds that a Christian theocracy controls America.) This leads to a disportional system basede on Religion. ID cards state you're religion, lincense plates are numbered by so police know your religion and if your an arab. A large Part of the apartheid theocracy problem is the "occupied territories." Israel does not consider them an independent nation Palestine, but a frontier territory, this is where things get messy. Palestinians Arabs are considered non-Israelis, Palestinian Jews are considered citizens. Furthermore there is mandatory military service for all Jewish Israeli males, and it it is extended to dual citizens. If you were born in situation say Israeli parents in the USA (or elsewhere), or you moved to USA (or elsewhere) and became a citizen of the new nation you still get stuck with dual citizenship and automatically being drafted into the IDF. This does not hold true of non-Jewish Israelis. |
